to day i was watching g-4 tv and the feed came on.
and it said that epic will make the new unreal engine 4 for consoles frist then the PC.
so i guess epic knows the real power of these new consoles
and they can make more moeny off of them..
this is good news for sure
The video game industry has no shortage of brilliant, outspoken thinkers and Epic CEO (and Unreal Engine guru) Tim Sweeney is no exception. In a previous installment of his interview with TG Daily, Sweeney said the PC wasn't a good platform for gaming and in this final installment he reveals that Unreal Engine 4 "will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft's successor for the Xbox 360, Sony's successor for the PlayStation 3 – and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs, then that also." Where does that leave the poor, struggling PC gaming platform? Sweeney says, "PCs will follow after that." Ooh, dissed.
Id have to disagree with u on that since PC gaming is usually always ahead of consoles or usually seems to pull ahead nd juss doesnt stop evolving while a console has its limits nd u cannot upgrade keyparts (GFX, CPU etc)... nd have to wait till the "next-gen" console comes out...
Im not saying PC gaming is better overall.. as consoles have more conveince and usually have great fun games for all of there lifetime... im juss sayin in terms of technology (mainly GFX, physics etc.) seem to always get better on the PC then they do on consoles
I personally think the unreal engine needs to retire. Its too easy for lazy game devs to use it and pump out a mediocre game. So far the only game that looks decent using the engine is Bioshock, which doesn't even seem to be using it since most games that do, you can really tell its the unreal engine. Of course now that I think of it...everything in Bioshock was all 'shiny' looking....so i guess I retract my statement.
To me the games that use it all look alike, and very few have any unique qualities to them.

I kind of agree with this actually.
There are way too many lazy devs these days, "oh its taking too long, my head hurts, i can't do this, wahh "
If you aren't willing to do the work then why the hell did you get into game development?!
The ONLY people who have any right to complain are the graphics people since they have to create higher textures/more detailed models, and the people managing memory requirements for specific sections (bigger and bigger games these days)
And worse still is there are more courses these days filled with people who only have experience from building a game with RPG Maker...
In fact, i recently heard from a friend who has a friend in a college course for Games Dev, and pretty much all they ever do is use DarkBASIC... it IS HNC, but for crying out loud, learn some basic C, hell, even Java.
I fear for the future of gaming, and software development in general...

i like the part where it says for the successor of the xbox 360 looks like the present 360 wont be able to handle what they are thinking about or do they suspect that microsoft will go with a processor similar to the cell
this is a good thing though,i my self have given up on PC gaming,i was quite anti console a year ago,the next engine will be more compatible and easy to work with on all consoles at launch im guessing, unlike now where MS has an edge.
None of the current consoles are ready for it, I believe the new cell Sony has developed(4-5 times more powerful, basically godly) will be what uses it. The 360 is amde from computers items, which is most likely the explanation to the red ring of death. The PS3 is LIKE a computer with power and features, but it is still made as a system. The Wii would be a compact arcade machine if it didnt have Zelda, Mario, and Metroid. Hopefully the next Nintendo, and their new software (no more Wiimote and nunchucks) will be a powerful system, and devs can easily make games for them now. Nintendo would be the ones with the most benefit easily with their game libraries.
